The AdAge.com survey has all of management up in arms. It seems they did a survey that was used to state that about 25% of working Americans spend about 10% of their scheduled work time reading blogs.
So in typical fashion, management can be expected to demand the end of on the clock blog reading! Forget that the statistical viability of any survey should be considered before making a definitive decision, except of course for corporate management.
Survey questions are some of the most difficult to create without bias. Survey questions can be fashioned to deliver any answer the surveyor desires. So the question fo statistical relevence and bias are never considered instead, it’s easier to over react over a single data point.
American management never disappoints!
When do you know that a management team is in trouble? Answer: When the game of musical chairs and reorganizations of groups becomes evident. OK, there ARE times when re-orgs are required that aren’t due to inept management. One indicated however of poor or ineffective management however is the proverbial re-organization.
This is done to hide the failure and provide the appearance to others in the know that something is being done about the situation. It’s not important that the culpable parties are held accountable or that the guilty are the ones that lost their jobs. No, the focus here is to hide the failure and provide cover for those in upper management. Now this is a project management nightmare in that the risk of someone with integrity that blows the whistle is great. The good news is that the upper management is so much a closed club that even if someone does offer the truth, it is routinely ignored.
